MEET COACH KATIE

I'm an ex weight loss coach because diet culture frightfully parallels trauma.
​
I am a survivor.
I am living with CPTSD.
I am healing.

I took an unprecedented (and severely under medically researched) approach to move my healing forward when I began to struggle with chronic dissociation and numbness, health conditions with no medical explanation for them, and other physiological symptoms of trauma. Rather than use strength training to hide from my pain and fear, I trained in a way that accounted for how trauma impacted my posture, proprioception, nervous system, and mindset.

And this made me feel better on a daily basis.
Instead of traditional talk therapy I refused to engage in during sessions, this approach helped me to restore balance to my nervous system, allowed me to reconnect with others, and let me to safely experience how strong and resilient I really am, which meant that I began to feel better, more confident and my self-esteem improved. This created a positive feedback loop and broke me out of my triggered cycle of self sabotage, shame, and victimhood.

As I pieced together a program suitable for myself, I found that practitioners who worked with the body (doctors, massage therapists, meditation teachers, and physical therapists) often did not fully understand how trauma impacted me, and women like me. I read quite a bit on my own and then began to seek out teachers, trainings, and certifications on physical fitness approaches to healing trauma. I kept applying what I was learning and in addition to feeling better, I was happier!

I train, coach, speak and write on living with, and healing from trauma through weight training and physical performance improvements.

Level 1 Certified USA Weightlifting Coach

ISSA Certified Powerlifting Instructor
ACE Certified Personal Trainer since 2010
ICF Certified Coach Practitioner since 2012
Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science
State records in Squat and Bench in 2017, and again Squat in 2021
Competitively lifting at the IPL World Qualifying Level in powerlifting
Coaching 100s of women across the US to lasting sustainable health and happiness

Weight loss efforts fail 98%  of the time and is the highest indicator of future weight gain.

Shrinking our bodies is NOT the way to improve physical health and in reality there are hundreds of ways that have nothing to do with weighing less.

I take the always dieting woman and transform her into an athlete! Because, 

Athletes work in 4 areas - Strength, Stamina, Flexibility, and Sport-Specific Technique.

I believe wholeheartedly in working to improve in those areas instead of trying to manipulate your size. And each of those areas translate to strength, stamina, flexibility and skill work outside of just the gym!
